Okeechobee Florida

While spending a few days here in Okeechobee, we found a few things to do and a nice restaurant. Our first stop was Taylor’s Fruit Stand / Air boat Ride. The 45 minute ride was fun and a way to get that up close view of the swamp lands. We went mid day so the gators were in the shade and out of site, that was not our intent but I did not mind.

As I have mentioned a few times, we like to eat in our RV, but on that day we had lunch at Lightsey’s Fish Company & Seafood Restaurant on State Road 78, in West Okeechobee, and just a few miles up from the Taylor’s fruit stand . We ate on the screened in porch and with a light breeze it could not have been nicer.

Camping Next To Snowbirds

Never had I seen a trend in a campground, but this trip to southern Florida was our first time to rub elbows with what is affectionately called the ”Snow Birds”.  We found it humorous since our plan was not to stay but a few days here at the Okeechobee KOA.

We quickly realized most of the sites in this KOA campground were full of campers that come down yearly to the nice warm climate verses snowy cold weather.

It is a good thing we like to talk to each other because it was the most unfriendly campground we have ever stayed in our fifteen years of camping in parks. Even though there were street signs,  other signs on tree gave you a hint of where they were migrating.

By driving up to our camp site it was very clear we were in the short term area. The street our camp site was on was the most uneven and tightest compared to all the other streets. But that was ok, we understood, those that have paid for months verses days should have the level sites.  There were defiantly communities and we were not one of ”them”. Maybe it was like being at the new school and not being in the click. How ever you describe being a snowbird, I was glad we were just passing through.

Florida In March….continues

After leaving Saint Augustine we made our way to Okeechobee, Florida. We are staying at our second KOA Campground. Rolling in I was amazed at how large this campground is, and very nice.

Facebook-20150306-070129One of the nice things about RV’ing is just how little it takes to set up and pack it up to hit the road. I was just wandering if any of you guys have a trick or two preparing to leave a campground?
