Florida Key’s

Plan Plan Plan

If you plan a trip is it the only way to have a good time? No, but trying to research your destination and the places you want to see makes a world of difference. We planned six days for Key West and could have used one more day.

While planning our trip I used Pinterest, I have found it is a nice tool. Create a board for each city you plan to visit and you are sure to find many sites both expected and unexpected. Make sure you add a map, most but not all of the locations you choose can be placed on that map. Then just print you picks. We first done this for Branson and it kelp me on tract since we had less days scheduled.

How do you plan for a trip and what do you use… app’s, trip advisory, or do you just Google?

While At The Key’s

Take a tour of the Turtle Hospital and the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon Key. Each a non-profit center dedicated to rescue, release, and education of endangered marine life, primarily of courses dolphins and sea turtles.

I was so disappointed to find we missed the public release of a sub-adult logger head sea turtle by one day. Any time wild life can be returned back into its natural habitat is a good thing.

The Turtle Hospital website will post the date and time when they will have a public release. For Kokomo, the logger hear turtle’s release we missed, he was in the hospital because a fisherman hooked him while fishing.

koa19The man called the hospital and according to the web site it was a good thing he did or Kokomo would have swallowed the hook and died.

The hospital gives tours daily of the facility to educate the public.

The Dolphins Research Center is just a little different but results are the same to rehabilitate marine life. On the mission Statement, it says their goal is to promote peaceful coexistence and communication between marine mammals, humans and the environment we share.

koa17While on many of the tours related to the sea while here in the Key’s you will hear it said many times; do not feed marine life and give them their space. I found both facilities educational, and feel I walked away thankful we have places like the dolphin and turtle center.

Heading In To The Florida Keys

We are enjoying our travels, once we passed Daytona it was all new ground for us. This was the first time to see the Ever Glades and the Keys.

koa29Just a FYI, don’t try to roll in to Key West or any of the Keys on a Friday or Saturday…. not good… not pretty… and especially not a pleasant ride. We drove in on Saturday and it was bumper to bumper all the way. Our stop was Sugarloaf Key KOA Campground and what was to be a five-hour drive became a seven hour marathon. As we got closer the color of the water changed colors and the worries of the trip was quickly wiped away.
